Autism.
Where do I start?!
The evidence
- According to the Tech Talent Charter, 15% of UK tech workers identified as autistic when asked (out of a representative 500 person sample)
- We can have above-average skills when it comes to areas like memory, concentration and reliability
- More than 3 in 10 autistic adults have attempted suicide, and almost 8 in 10 autistic adults have a mental health condition (click here to access the Samaritans website).
In sum:
We are prevalent in your work force (even if you don't notice our differences), we may excel in certain areas and, if not supported, we may experience extreme distress. Here's where you come in...
What you can do
- Take the first steps towards learning about autism
- Improve on your organisation's understanding of autism
- Plan and action achievable changes to how your organisation works (that will likely benefit all employees, but especially those that are autistic)
I can help your organisation with any (or all) of the above. To find out more:

"Working with Nellie has been impactful at an organisational, and individual level. It has allowed us to review our approach and understanding of what inclusivity means, making relevant reasonable adjustments that support and enable all members of our community. Nellie is an extremely competent speaker and facilitator, able to adapt the conversation at relevant levels within the organisation and to varied audiences."
James Adams, Founder and CEO, Tech Educators
"I collaborated with Nellie recently on a talk for the codebar community about autism. She is a great speaker, her ability to engage and connect with the audience was amazing. Her authenticity and enthusiasm make her talk incredibly impactful and memorable. I highly recommend her for any speaking or collaboration opportunities."
Kimberley Cook, codebar Director
About Nellie
📷 Rob DodsworthPrior to becoming self employed, I spent several years working at one of the UK's leading autism charities, where I spoke publicly on autism and supported autistic volunteers. Thanks to the charity, I was able to take part in media training, speak at an NHS Confed Expo and receive my autism diagnosis.
After leaving that role in 2023, I took a leap into the tech sector and experienced first hand the levels of understanding of autism in the sector, as well as what it's like to be an autistic adult learner on an intensive coding bootcamp.
I continue to remain immersed in current work around autism in society, while also working on my coding skills (slowly but surely!)
Current voluntary roles
- National Autistic Society autism insight panel member
- Student and coach at the charity codebar
- Community Advisory panel member for the Autism Centre of Excellence Cambridge
- Notion Ambassador
